• Brain Warm-Ups. Here is a quick quiz to get your brain warmed-up for solving the brain games in this booklet.
• Brainteasers. These are playful puzzles that require lateral thinking or “thinking outside the box.” While some of these brainteasers may allow you to think in conventional ways, most require a significant shift in perspective before they can be solved.
• Riddles. A riddle is a puzzle consisting of text with a question to answer. Solving riddles often requires the ability to make new connections and think in original ways. In fact, like a good magic trick, some riddles will seem outright impossible until you discover the secret.
• Rebuses. Rebus puzzles are pictograms that use letters, symbols, and words arranged to represent a common word or phrase. The placement, size, and direction of the items in the puzzle box are often clues to the solution. While some rebus puzzles can be pretty obvious, others require a bit more thinking and often make use of several rebus patterns.
• Droodles. A droodle is a doodle riddle or a riddle doodle. Your goal is to figure out what the artist had in mind when they created the simple drawing. Of course, there isn’t any “right” answer; in fact, there are often many answers. After you decode these puzzles, try creating a few of your own and see if other people can decipher your droodle dabbles.
